photographer and surveyor, was appointed to GeorgeGoyder's survey party to northern Australia as assistant to the expedition’s photographer, J. Brooks. The party left Adelaide in the Moonta in December 1868 and landed at Port Darwin on 5 February 1869. Brooks and Barlow found themselves too busy with general surveying chores to take many photographs and most of the views of the settlement were taken by Samuel Sweet, captain of the Gulnare, who was at Port Darwin from late March to mid-May and from 24 August to 28 September 1869. Returning on board the Gulnare, Barlow reached Adelaide on 15 October 1869.
