professional photographer, was born in Ireland. He travelled to North America (possibly Philadelphia) in 1841 and later worked as a photographer there. Also claiming experience as a photographer in England, Irwin turned up at Ipswich, Queensland, in 1866 and advertised this expertise. His studio in Ellenborough Street survived until the following year, then Irwin disappeared from the colonial scene.
