Born in 1972 on Thursday Island, Torres Strait, Mario Assan studied for a Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Art at Cairns TAFE College. Assan works as a painter and drawer employing the traditional designs and sea life of the Torres Strait into his images. Assan has worked as a graphic artist and a resident artist at local Thursday Island schools.
