sketcher and squatter, was born on 27 June 1836 in Larvik, Norway. One of 13 children, he was a brother of Alexander and Charles Archer . James’s small sketchbook (c.1861-63, ML) consists mainly of drawings of people, most depicted in profile. A caricature of Alexander is annotated 'Sandy as he appears after a champagne supper’. James lived in Australia for several years and died at Larvik on 10 June 1919.
