Ernest William Christmas, painter, was born in South Australia. The Christmas family moved to Western Australia about 1889, provisioning miners as they had done in Kadina SA and Broken Hill NSW. An extensive traveler, he spent time in Western Australia, New Zealand, South America, England, the USA, and Hawaii. Christmas mainly painted landscapes featuring dramatic rivers at sunset and snow capped mountain peaks.
