professional photographer, worked in Bay Street, Sandridge (Port Melbourne) in 1864-68 as the partner of Romulus Dethbridge. He set up his own studio at 135 Clarendon Street, Emerald Hill (South Melbourne) in 1868, then was in partnership with Frederick P. Stevenson at 57 Bourke Street East in 1869-70. Benson & Stevenson were listed at 108 Elizabeth Street in 1872-79 with a break at 3 Collins Street West, Melbourne, in 1873.
